INDEPENDENT MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS (IMEs)

What is an Independent Medical Examination (IME)?

An IME is an objective medical evaluation performed by a neutral qualified physician who is not involved in a patient’s ongoing care. IMEs are typically requested in legal, insurance, or workers’ compensation cases to assess injuries, medical conditions, or disabilities. Additionally, IMEs can be useful in answering any medical questions a patient, employer, or other client has about a medical diagnosis, treatment, or prognosis.
